As we prepare for Thanksgiving, it’s time to take a look at our favorite one hit wonder turkeys. Oh Mickey! Say it ain’t so!10. Toni Basil- Mickey1982. Back when cheerleaders were cool.9. Pilot- MagicIt’s too bad their “magic” couldn’t bring the Scottish band another hit. And I’m not even going to tell you what I actually thought this song said when it first came out in 1974, but listen to how they sing the song’s title and see what you come up with.8. Ace- How LongAce was together from 1972-1977, that’s how long, and this was their only certified stateside hit. They’re probably much more well known for launching the career of Paul Carrack, who found his biggest successes with Squeeze and Mike + The Mechanics.7. Stories- Brother LouieStories had their only hit in 1973 with a cover of Hot Chocolate‘s then controversial tale of interracial love.6. Starland Vocal Band- Afternoon DelightThe song was such a smash in 1976 that it garnered the group a Grammy for best new artist AND their own short-lived variety show. Then? Nothing.5. Paper Lace- The Night Chicago DiedThe quirky ode to Al Capone was a huge hit in 1974. The British band could have possibly gone down in history as a two hit wonder, but Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods beat them to the American punch by releasing their version of Billy Don’t Be A Hero before Paper Lace could get theirs across the Atlantic.4. Timbuk3- The Future’s So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)The band released six studio albums between 1986 and 1995, but they’re mainly known only for their cautionary futuristic ode released in 1986.3. Men Without Hats- Safety DanceThe Men Without Hats hit danced to the #3 position on the U.S. charts in 1983.2. Dexy’s Midnight Runners- Come On EileenPoor old Dexy’s Midnight Runners. They were never quite able to recapture the success of their 1982 one hitter.1. After The Fire- Der KommissarDer Kommissar came to town in 1983, giving British New Wavers After The Fire their only stateside hit.
You played a cute Thanksgiving song yesterday around 3:40 that I can’t find. Some of the lyrics are: “I’m taking what they’re giving, Turkey for Thanksgiving”. Any chance you can tell me the name of it? Thanks
